Enter the Paul Volponi Reading Celebration!

In anticipation of Paul Volponi's "visit" to Strasburg High School, the library will be giving away a free copy of Paul Volponi's new book Response. For every Volponi book that you read, you are invited to enter by responding to the following:

After reading the book, what specific character, situation, or moral dilemma made you stop and think and how did it impact your view with regard to what was going on in the book? Given the opportunity, what question would you like to ask Mr. Volponi during his conference call visit?

Please include the title of the book in your response as well as your first name and last initial.

Response

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was sad yet it was about something that happens in real life. I dont like made up stories where it always has a happy ending' I like stories aboout real life situations. I like to see how they dealt with the situation and how they learned from it.

Noah's situation is a good example. He got a girl pregnant and instead of having an abortion they kept it, learning how to love more and to love each other. and his incident with the bat, having to recover while being blamed for everything that has happened, going to court, etc. It was really all just a blessing in disguise. Because in his own way he learned how to be a man.

The Hand Your Dealt

I enjoyed reading this story and after I finished it, it encouraged me to learn to play poker. Now I play whenever I can! Looking forward to talking to you this week.

well i have personally read The Hand Your Dealt and Black and White. They are both very interesting to read. I like Black and White because it happens more than you know. People will be the best of friends and then when you guys get busted for something you did you both are trying to stay clean and out of it but the one who gets caught gets it worse than they should.

Hurricane Song

At first I read this book only because I had to. But as I got to reading, it I really started to like the book. It talked a lot about the problems with Hurricane Katrina. When Hurricane Katrina was going on I didn't pay very much attention to the news so I really didn't know what was going on. But from reading this book i have a new outlook on the Hurricane there was a lot more suffrage then I thought there was. While reading about Miles experiences I really had to think about why some of the people did what they did over silly things. Over all I am glad that i read this book and I feel that reading this book has opened new ways of thinking when i think about Hurricane Katrina.

Black and White

I really really liked this book because it makes you feel how the characters are rfeeling. When reading the book it while reading about Eddie and what he did made you feel like crap because you knew he should of took the blame for the shooting. Through the whole story I was hoping Eddie would just own up for his mistake and stop making everyone else around him(His parents) suffer for his mistakes. I think it would think that you would at least give an explanation to the one who gave birth to you. That is why I love this book. It shows what can happen and what will happen if you or anyone lies.

I have read Rooftop and Black and White. I liked them both and i thought you did a really good job writing both of them. Rooftop was probably my favorite because even after his cousin was shot Clay never gave up and finished school. He also told the truth after he lied about the wallet, which showed that he had matured.

Black and White

I enjoyed the book "Black and White". It was a mind blowing experiance. I thought it made a great connection to something that couldn't happen in every day life. Paul did a great job.

He had a great way of writing the views of younger teenagers. And it seemed like he was a teenager himself writting his life story.
I honestly think this book could help kids get through situations like the one in the book to help them through life.
